What's new about the Nike Pegasus 42?
It's what's on the inside that counts, which is why the biggest innovation of the Nike Pegasus 42 sits at its core. The shoe moves from two separate units to a single, curved full-length Air Zoom unit. Combined with the proven ReactX foam, the shoe practically catapults you forward. With this model, Nike promises an increase in energy return of at least 15 %.
For you, that means more dynamism without giving up the familiar comfort of your beloved Nike Pegasus. The new Dynamic Fit system in the midfoot has the pleasant effect of making this shoe feel like a second skin. The revised Engineered Mesh in the upper is now even more breathable, so you can look forward to the warm days of the 2026 season, too.
Technical facts about the Nike Pegasus 42.
The Pegasus 42 is built on the proven MR-10 last. This is Nike's standard fit, known for its consistency and a secure heel hold.
Nike Pegasus 42 vs. Pegasus 41. Is the update worth it?

Our verdict. How does the Pegasus 42 run?
The Pegasus 41 is already a strong shoe. But the Pegasus 42 takes the decisive step towards performance. With the full-length Air Zoom unit, there's now a much smoother transition from heel to forefoot. So if you want the latest Nike technology, you should definitely go for the 42.

Your questions about the new classic, the Nike Pegasus 42.
The official release date for the Pegasus 42 was 9 April 2026. Just in time for the start of the season, you'll find the latest spring and summer colourways with us.
Thanks to the MR-10 last, the basic character stays the same. The new Dynamic Fit system, however, provides an even more secure hold in the midfoot area, which is especially noticeable on fast bends.
Yes. The ReactX foam is very stable and provides excellent joint protection on tarmac even under higher loads. If you weigh over 90 kg and are after the ultimate cushioning, you should take a look at the Nike Vomero instead.
The MR-10 last is the heart of Nike's fit consistency. It's responsible for securely enclosing the heel while giving the forefoot enough room. If you liked the Pegasus 41 or the earlier series models, you can rely on the same familiar wearing feel in the 42.
Absolutely, because thanks to the new full-length Air Zoom unit and the 15 % increase in energy return, the Pegasus 42 feels noticeably more dynamic at higher speeds than a pure comfort cushioning shoe. It bridges the gap between an easy long run and ambitious tempo training.
In our experience, at least 400 to 500 km, though up to 800 km is possible. However, this depends heavily on your personal running style, your weight and the surface you run on. Look out for visible wear on the outsole or whether the cushioning feels flat. The latter often goes unnoticed for (too) long, as the cushioning fades gradually. If you run often, alternating with a second pair of running shoes can also extend their lifespan, as it gives the cushioning time to recover between runs.
The Nike Pegasus series.
At over 40 years old, the Nike Pegasus is an old hand among trainers. This running shoe series keeps evolving. Since 1983, the concept has been built on an honest training shoe that suits many different running styles and refuses to be forced into a single niche. The Pegasus 42 carries on this tradition. In our Nike Pegasus range you'll find more running shoes, including the Nike Pegasus Trail.
